Chris Hartley has 30 years experience as a professional motorsport commentator - working throughout the UK and internationally on live television broadcasts, highlights TV coverage and live event commentary.

In the UK, he's the lead circuit commentator for the British Touring Car Championship and is part of Silverstone's commentary team for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. 

 

In 2026, he'll also be leading the circuit commentary at Silverstone for the MotoGP British Grand Prix.

 

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Internationally, Chris is the live world-feed television commentator for the

hugely popular DTM German Touring Car Championship - broadcasting

to more than 150 countries worldwide. He also provides voice-overs for all

of the DTM's international TV highlights programmes, online and social

media content.

 

In 2023, he stood in for BBC Radio Five Live's regular

commentator and provided weekend-long national radio commentary for

the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. Since 2023, he's also worked as the

English-language circuit commentator and podium interviewer for the

annual Macau Grand Prix in China - covering the GT World Cup, Formula 3,

Formula Regional and Formula 4 races.

During his career, Chris has provided live circuit commentary for Chris Evan's Carfest events, including the Wales Rally GB World Rally Championship and leading UK championships like British Formula 4,  the Mini Challenge and thePorsche Carrera Cup Great Britain. In total, he's provided live circuit commentary at more than 400 national and club motorsport events across the UK since 2000.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Chris also has extensive experience of travelling across Europe and the Middle East - working with international broadcast production companies to provide live world-feed commentary for high profile international championships including Formula Renault Eurocup, GT Masters, European F3, 

the Monza Rally Show and the Nürburgring 24 hours.

Away from motor racing, Chris has travelled the world reporting for Sky Sports TV productions on events as diverse as the University Winter Games,  Squash World Tour, X-Cat Powerboat World Series,  Archery World Championships and the Women's Ten Pin Bowling World Championship. â€‹â€‹ He's also provided TV highlights commentary on Snowboard Cross, Ski Cross, Squash, Powerboating and Waterski racing. 

 

In his youth, Chris raced 100cc karts at British Championship level; finishing 4th in the British Open Championships, winning a round of the British Championships and taking a title and numerous vice championships at club level. For two years, he achieved a national seeding - awarded only to the top 15 British drivers in each race category. Chris has also competed in a handful of Fun Cup Endurance car races, with a best result of 4th place.​​
